15 May 2022

Giving the gift of water safety – The Y gives free Water Safety Classes to kids in the Greater Dayton Area The YMCA of Greater Dayton has announced its annual offering of free water safety classes for kids in the community with their Safety Around Water program June 6th-10th, 2022. This program is provided to empower kids around pools and educate parents about the importance of water safety.

“Every child deserves the opportunity to learn and enjoy the water in a safe environment, ”said Dale Brunner, President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Dayton. “The YMCA provides kids from all over Dayton the opportunity to expand their world and an opportunity to satisfy their curiosity around water. We are proud to continue our Safety Around Water program, and our hope is that swimmers develop confidence as well as a lifelong love of swimming.”

Safety Around Water Week includes four 30-minute classes Monday–Thursday and includes a free family swim time at the conclusion of the week on Friday, June 10th. Parents are encouraged to sign up their kids early as spots are limited. Ages and times available vary by location.

“The YMCA of Greater Dayton is committed to reducing water-related injuries, particularly in communities where children are more at risk,” said Bambi Puckett, Executive Director of the West Carrollton YMCA and Director of the Safety Around Water Week Program. “ If children know how to stay safe in and around water, swimming can be a lifelong source of fun and exercise. Instead of keeping your children away from water, help them learn fundamental water safety skills.”
