Social Distancing Picnic Packing
Over the past several months, people have become more and more savvy at enjoying time together in a safe and socially distanced way. In the spotlight this week is how to plan for a picnic with your family or close friends.
To start, locate a picnic basket, hamper, tote, or cooler to transport your picnic foods. If foods need to remain cooled, then a cooler is your best choice for food safety. If you are heading to your nearest park, then a blanket with a water resistant side is a great alternative to inhabiting the shelters and park benches.
Be sure to include a roll of paper towels and a trash bag if unable to dispose of waste properly. Include a proper knife for last minute chopping – you will happy you have one!
Remember to bring enough drinks for your group, including enough water and non-sugar sweetened beverages, like unsweetened ice tea!
When it comes to picnic foods here is a list of picnic friendly, easy to prep ahead foods:
•Sandwiches/wraps
•Cut up fruit, like watermelon
•Fresh cut vegetables with roasted red pepper hummus dip
•Whole wheat pita bread
•Cut up cheese
•Pico de Gallo w/ corn tortillas
•Oatmeal Raisin Cookies
Happy Picnicking!
