A community pool consistently on the chopping block will remain open after an anonymous donation.

The YMCA of Greater Dayton was able to secure a $40,000 donation to help Trotwood and the YMCA keep the pool despite financial difficulties running and operating the pool.

“We were shocked,” said Gayle Horton, Community Executive Director for the YMCA of Greater Dayton. “This donor had given us money in the past in certain amounts. We had met about a month ago and they assured us of the gift.”

Horton said the donor visited the pool for about 50 years and was known by all the workers. “His family came forward to say they wanted everybody to have the same opportunity,” said Horton. “So this $40,000 will assure the longevity of this pool for more than one year.”

During Monday’s council meeting, Trotwood city leaders addressed the impact of this donation. The pool operates as a partnership between the YMCA and Trotwood. Because of recent economic struggles, the pool’s funding has consistently been considered for the chopping block.
