October 31, 2014 - Of all the phone calls Xenia YMCA Executive Director Tiffany Foxx receives, the one she answers from Taco Bell tops the list. It usually means money.
Following suit with a donation it made last year, the Xenia Taco Bell on Main Street gave the Y a $1,000 check Thursday for its teen foundation following an annual fund-raising program held nationally by the fast food chain.
The money will be used by the YMCA to help youth and/or teens who can’t otherwise afford a membership join the Y, Foxx said.
“We put it into our campaign funds,” she said. “We’re certainly grateful. It’s probably the best phone call that I get all year long.”
The local Taco Bell was able raise nearly $11,000 which ranked No. 2 in the country, missing No. 1 by a little more than $300, General Manager Dee McCormick said. Last year the local store was No. 5. McCormick’s store got to allocate $1,000 to a local venue while the corporation keeps and disburses the rest, all in Greene County.
“We get to give back, that is a big thing for us,” McCormick said.
As a reward, the entire store got a day off for a celebration at Shawnee Park in Xenia.
The Xenia Taco Bell isn’t just generous to outside organizations. McCormick said the company has an in-house grad program where employees can take online classes and get a GED. Four are scheduled to graduate in May.
