Kettering Health Network's Preble County Medical Center recently teamed up with the Preble County YMCA to host a free health fair, open to the public, to help promote health and fitness to the areas residents.

The event was held on Thursday, Sept. 22, at the YMCA in Eaton. This was the third straight year the YMCA has teamed with the PCMC for this event, and the eighth year the YMCA has participated in the event.

The event offered free screenings of many kinds, including those for cholesterol, blood pressure, hearing, balance testing, and osteoporosis. Also available on site were medical professionals offering information on breast health and awareness, and heart health. Representatives from Dr. Scott Vosler's office, were also on hand giving flu shots for $20.

The YMCA also held a blood drive that had 40 donors register - 37 of whom checked in. A total of 26 units of blood were collected during the drive.

The health fair played host to 53 different vendors, and ended up having 250 attendees. Some 43 different door prizes were won during the event - everything from flowers to gift cards, coffee mugs to shirts, was given away as a thanks to those who attended.

The number of blood pressure checks performed at the fair totaled 191, taken by Kettering Health Network (106), Greenbriar Senior Living Campus (50), and Personal Touch Home Care (35). Vosler's staff administered a total of 44 flu shots; Vancrest performed 70 cholesterol checks; 51 osteoporosis screenings were performed; 210 attendees visited the "Wheel of Health" trivia game; 110 people made their way to the stress awareness booth, and 70 people visited the hand-washing station.

Emma Marcun, a local resident, jumped at the chance to visit the health fair. "I got a card in the mail advertising the event, and I decided to come get the flu shot. I am also getting my blood pressure and cholesterol checked."
