A committee of ten individuals worked for approximately 8 months on the planning and due diligence of the merger, under the guidance of Dave Ramey with Strategic Leadership Associates in Beavercreek.

The merger will become effective May 1, 2008. As part of the merger agreement, twelve members of the YMCA of Greene County Board of Directors will join the YMCA of Greater Dayton's Board. The "YMCA of Greater Dayton" name will be retained for the new, larger organization, which will include twelve branch locations and approximately $22 million in annual revenue.

Tim Helm, President and CEO, of the YMCA of Greater Dayton said, "This merger allows our YMCA to grow and expand to reach more children and families across the Miami Valley. We will continue to provide much needed programs and services in our expanded service territory. Our goal remains…to build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all."

David Thompson, currently the CEO of the YMCA of Greene County, will join the staff of the YMCA of Greater Dayton in a vice president role and continue to provide supervision and oversight to the three Greene County branches in Xenia, Fairborn and Beavercreek.

The merger was supported and endorsed by both the local United Way of Greater Dayton and the Dayton Foundation, as well as the YMCA of the USA.

"United Way applauds the YMCA on this new collaboration which should only strengthen their already strong programs and already well-managed operations," said Marc R. Levy, President of the United Way of the Greater Dayton Area. "Both organizations have been long-time United Way partner agencies providing important services to the youth of our community. Everyone -- the communities and the clients -- will benefit from the streamlining of resources."

Mike Parks, President of the Dayton Foundation supported this merger, saying "Synergistic collaborations and partnerships are the future for the success of our local non-profits. The proactive collaboration of our two local YMCA's to better serve our community is right on."

The YMCA of Greater Dayton's mission is to put Judeo-Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Originally established in Dayton in 1858, the YMCA now has ten locations throughout the Miami Valley and services over 70,000 kids and families. The YMCA of Greater Dayton builds strong kids, strong families and strong communities through its programs and services.
