Huber Heights YMCA Announces 2005 Volunteers of the Year

March 21, 2005- The YMCA of Greater Dayton recently held its 134 th Annual Meeting at the Schuster Center in Dayton. The event raised close to $21,000 for the YMCA’s annual Strong Kids Campaign. The event consisted of a silent auction, dinner and a program where volunteers and staff were both recognized for their contributions to the success of the YMCA of Greater Dayton.

During the program, the Huber Heights YMCA recognized Doris Studebaker and Ed Hart as their 2005 Volunteers of the Year. As the Huber Heights YMCA began its transition from just a dream to a reality, there were two people who were integral to its tremendous success. Both Doris Studebaker and Ed Hart were identified early on as necessary advocates for the YMCA. Lucky for the YMCA, Doris and Ed both agreed to co-chair the Capital Campaign and after two years and countless hours of hard work the Huber Heights YMCA opened its doors to the community on February 25, 2005.

Both Doris and Ed have a great legacy of service to the Huber Heights Community. Doris is an extraordinary volunteer who is always willing to go the extra mile for a cause she believes in. Despite her demanding schedule, she always made time for the YMCA and worked hard to tell the YMCA story to everyone she met. Ed was the same way. If you drive through Huber Heights there are not many projects that have been completed that don’t have Ed Hart’s stamp on it. He was the visionary behind the Huber Heights Booster Center and countless other projects. Ed was a philanthropist who believed in the YMCA and worked hard on its behalf. Unfortunately, Ed never got see the finished product. Ed passed away in late January of 2005; however the YMCA would like to say “thanks Ed” for your time and your generosity. You are a true friend to the YMCA.

Both Ed and Doris have shown true commitment and dedication to the kids and families of Huber Heights and the Huber Heights YMCA is proud to recognize them for their efforts.
