YMCA Launches New Neighborhood Development Center at Cross Point UMC In Trotwood

September 23, 2004 - The YMCA of Greater Dayton is pleased to announce the launch of its YMCA Neighborhood Development Center at Cross Point United Methodist Church (UMC). This new Center is a collaboration between the YMCA of Greater Dayton and Cross Point UMC and will be located at the current Cross Point UMC location at 506 E. Main St. in Trotwood.

The YMCA Neighborhood Development Center at Cross Point UMC will have a grand opening celebration on October 2nd from 11 am to 4 pm. There will be fun activities for all ages including a fish fry, dunking booth, face painting, blood pressure checks, as well as games and activities for children/adults/seniors. The event is free and open to the public.

The new YMCA Neighborhood Development Center at Cross Point UMC will provide for a significant increase in programs and services to kids, families and seniors in the Trotwood community. Programs will include Spirit Quest, Nutrition Classes, Senior Exercise, Computer Lab, Music, Dance, Drama, Teen Programs, Bible Study and more! Financial assistance is also available, as in all YMCA programs and services, allowing for the greatest accessibility for all members of our community. Hours of operation will be Monday through Friday 10 am to 12 pm, Monday through Thursday 3 pm to 9 pm and Saturday 1 pm to 7 pm. The phone number for the new site is 854-9622.

The YMCA Neighborhood Development Center model was developed to serve children and families in both the West and East neighborhoods of the City of Dayton.

"This new model will allow the YMCA of Greater Dayton to serve a broader community of children and families as expanded programs and services are offered to core neighborhoods in both East and West Dayton," said Tim Helm, president and CEO for the YMCA of Greater Dayton. "The YMCA Neighborhood Development Centers will be able to leverage both organizational and community resources to launch and sustain this initiative."

This is the second YMCA Neighborhood Development Center to open this year. Additional sites are in the process of being confirmed. For more information please call Tim Helm, President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Dayton at (937) 223-5201.
