The Best Holiday Traditions for Every Family

It’s almost the most wonderful time of the year, and that makes it the perfect time to start thinking about what special traditions you may want to start with your family. There are so many to choose from, and we’re here to help. Whether you pick your favorite or try them all, you can be sure the whole family will enjoy these classic holiday traditions.

Look at the Lights House with Christmas Lights

Pack your family into the car, turn up the Christmas music, and drive around Dayton to find the best-dressed houses. Look for the houses with the most lights, inflatables, or weirdest decorations. If your family loves games, have everyone rate each house on a scale of one to ten.

Gingerbread House Competition

Bake your gingerbread, gather all the toppings you can think of, and see who can make the best gingerbread house! You could play boys v girls, parents v kids, or every man for himself. Be sure to take pictures so that you can compare the houses throughout the years.

Christmas Morning Pastries wreath-cookies

Start off Christmas morning with a sweet treat for everyone, like a Christmas Tree Coffee Cake from Ashley’s Pastry Shop, one of Dayton’s local, family-owned bakeries. This signature coffee cake features raspberry piping and holiday sprinkles to create the tastiest Christmas tree you’ll ever eat. Pick it up on Christmas Eve and simply warm it up on Christmas morning. Now you can spend less time baking and more time with family (or sleeping!).

Spread Christmas Cheer

There are so many ways to spread Christmas cheer to those around us. Take sugar cookies to the children at Dayton Children’s Hospital, volunteer at a local soup kitchen, or donate toys to needy children in Dayton. These are perfect opportunities to teach your children the importance of helping others.

Christmas Eve Cocoa Cup of Hot Chocolate

What’s better than a warm cup of cocoa on a cold, winter night? Maybe a warm cup of cocoa topped with mini marshmallows! Make a pot of hot chocolate, pick out your favorite Christmas movie to watch, and enjoy a cozy family night together.

It’s never too late to start holiday traditions. Pick your favorites from here or come up with your own! Either way, you’ll be creating Christmas memories with your family that will last a lifetime.
