Broadmoor Elementary students to be offered health program
CareSource donates $40,000 to YMCA for wellness project
TROTWOOD -- The YMCA of Greater Dayton has received a $40,000 donation from CareSource to develop a healthy youth program for students at Broadmoor Elementary School in Trotwood.
The contribution was provided by CareSoure of Dayton, a non-profit managed health care plan serving Medicaid consumers in Ohio.
"CareSource is proud to support this worthwhile YMCA project and help children and their families learn more about healthy lifestyle choices," said Pamela Morris, president and CEO of CareSource.
In partnership with many area organizations, the YMCA of Greater Dayton is offering a wellness program for 50 area youths in grades three though five.
Broadmoor was selected, according to a YMCA spokeswoman, because the YMCA already is operating a Cross Point Neighborhood Development Center program across the street. The Cross Point program also includes a fitness regimen.
Throughout the year, the students will be exposed to a variety of fitness and wellness programs designed to teach the importance of lifelong healthy lifestyles. Health and medical screenings and fitness assessments are included, as well as a variety of sports, swimming instruction, martial arts lessons, cardiovascular exercise and strength training.
The program is held five days a week, immediately after school, and encourages parents and guardians to be involved in the children's activities as well.
In addition to the CareSource contribution, other area organizations and individuals have donated to the program including Dayton Center Courts and Tennis Academy, Larry Jackson, Babolat Tennis Equipment, Trotwood-Madison City Schools, United Theological Seminary, and the Dayton Area Tennis Association.
Tim Helm, president and CEO of the Greater Dayton YMCA said, "Our goal with this program is to help children see the long-term benefits of a healthy lifestyle."
The program is free to children and their families.
