Lifeguard

Job Description:
Under the direction of the Aquatics Director and in accordance with the Christian nature and purpose of the YMCA of Greater Dayton, the Lifeguard is responsible for maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas.

Essential Functions
The incumbent must have the competencies, relationship building skills, and proven leadership ability to successfully carry out his/her duties in accordance with the YMCA’s mission and strategic plan of the association for serving the community. An understanding of the YMCA as a membership driven organization is a must. Other important competencies of the Lifeguard include the following:

• Maintains constant observation of the pool area.
• Ensures safety by communicating and enforcing any pool rules, policies and guidelines at participants’ comprehension level.
• Ensures safety by checking for hazardous conditions and making sure all safety equipment is properly placed and in proper working condition.
• Responds to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures for any situation, including first aid or CPR, work-related employee injuries, etc. Completes incident and accident reports as required.
• Follows all aquatics employee rules, dress code, policies and guidelines.
• Knows and administers the appropriate EAP (emergency action plan) for any situation, including first aid or CPR, work-related employee injuries, etc.
• Maintains and records accurate records including: pool chemical readings, first aid kit supplies, and pool equipment.
• Adds chemicals to pool if necessary.
• Maintains a clean environment by following and recording proper cleaning procedures.
• Inspects pool and rescue equipment for safety hazards, damage or wear.
• Sets up and stores equipment and assists other employees with event set up.
• Practices rescue and fitness drills regularly.
• Promotes aquatics and other YMCA programs.
• Communicates to direct supervisor any concerns, needed repairs, or incidents that may need follow-up.
• Communicates any suggestions to improve the aquatics facility.
• Takes an active role in the annual Strong Kids Campaign.
• Follows membership retention practices of the branch.
• Is courteous and gives sincere attention to members by answering questions.
• Knows the names of members and uses their names when speaking with them.
• Upholds guidelines as outlined in the Employee Handbook of the Association.

Requirements:
Education and Certifications – Must be at least 16 years of age. High school diploma or GED preferred. Certification requirements include CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and must hold current YMCA Lifeguard certification (or hold a valid Red Cross Lifeguard certification and attend YMCA Crossover within 90 days of employment). Blood Bourne Pathogens, New Employee Orientation, and Child Abuse Prevention training is required within first 90 days of employment. Blood Bourne Pathogens and Child Abuse Prevention must be renewed every 12 months.

Experience – Six months or more of related lifesaving experience preferred.

Skills and Abilities – With an understanding of the YMCA organization, persons in this position must be able to display sound judgment and decision making skills. Must possess an understanding of overall pool operations and protocol. Must have excellent lifesaving skills and the ability to perform all lifesaving actions in accordance with training and guidelines in order to perform a satisfactory rescue. Must be observant, safety conscious and be able to react calmly and quickly in an emergency situation. Must have ability to stay alert to potential safety and security problems. Must have excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills. Must have the ability to relate to people in a positive, but firm manner.

Day Camp Site Administrator

Job Description:
Under the direction of the Child Care/Program Director and in accordance with the Christian nature and purpose of the YMCA of Greater Dayton, the Site Administrator is responsible for the planning, development and implementation of all activities. The Site Administrator is responsible for ensuring the children’s social, physical, spiritual and mental development in the program, as well as keeping safety and the well being of the children as a first priority.

Essential Functions
The incumbent must have the competencies, relationship building skills, and proven leadership ability to successfully carry out his/her duties in accordance with the YMCA’s mission and strategic plan of the association for serving the community. Other important competencies of the Site Administrator include the following:
• Assists in the planning, designing, evaluation and implementation of all aspects of the day camp programs in accordance with YMCA of the USA and YMCA of Greater Dayton guidelines.
• Operates program within budget guidelines.
• Responsible for all aspects of program development, quality and safety.
• Maintains required enrollment numbers.
• Administers the program in accordance with Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) and ACA guidelines.
• Cooperates with ODJFS and ACA staff for required reports and inspections; responds to inspection requests within required timeframes.
• Completes annual inspections within required timeframe with fire department, Department of Health, etc. as required.
• Knows and administers the appropriate EAP (emergency action plan) for any situation, including first aid or CPR, work-related employee injuries, etc.

Requirements:
Education and Certifications – Must be at least 18 years of age, possess high school diploma or GED. A minimum of 18 credit hours of Early Childhood Education, child development, or related field is required. Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field from an accredited college or university and/or a Child Development Associate’s certificate (CDA) strongly preferred. CPR for the appropriate age group, First Aid, Blood Bourne Pathogens, Communicable Disease, New Employee Orientation, and Child Abuse Prevention training is required within first 90 days of employment. Blood Bourne Pathogens and Child Abuse Prevention must be reviewed every 12 months.

Experience - Minimum of 1 year experience of working with children demonstrating the ability to motivate and supervise staff. Planning and program development skills are helpful. Previous day camp experience preferred.

Skills and Abilities – With an understanding of the YMCA mission as well as the goals and objectives of the strategic plan of the Association, this person must be able to implement programs in accordance with YMCA of the USA standards. Must be able to handle multiple tasks and must be a creative, motivated, self-starter. Must have ability to lead and motivate others. Must be able to project enthusiasm to other staff and program participants. Must display sound judgment as well as independent thinking skills. Must be able to work independently as well as with a staff team. Must be able to provide quality programs and activities for a variety of ages. • Effectively communicates verbal and written reports to the parents, and conducts parent/teacher conferences in accordance with Center guidelines.
• Possesses working knowledge of child abuse and neglect laws and follows proper reporting procedures.
• Handles discipline promptly and in accordance with the stated discipline policy. Documents and reports to the supervisor any special needs or problems of an individual child, staff or parent.
• Monitors and assists in maintaining the cleanliness of the child care and program area.

• Attends parent events/family programs.
• Attends scheduled staff meetings, staff activities and ongoing trainings.

Job Description:
Persons in this position will be responsible for providing a quality day camp experience for children; ensuring their safety and growth in spirit, mind, and body. Persons in this position are also responsible for the physical and emotional safety of children participating in aquatic activities. Under the direction of the Child Care/Program Director and in accordance with the Christian nature and purpose of the YMCA of Greater Dayton, the Assistant Day Camp Site Administrator is responsible for the assisting the day camp director in all camp responsibilities and activities. The Assistant Day Camp Site Administrator is responsible for ensuring the children’s social, physical, spiritual and mental development in the program, as well as keeping safety and the well being of the children as a first priority.

Blood Bourne Pathogens and Child Abuse Prevention must be renewed every 12 months.

Experience – Six months or more of related lifesaving experience preferred.

Skills and Abilities – With an understanding of the YMCA organization, persons in this position must be able to display sound judgment and decision making skills. Must possess an understanding of overall pool operations and protocol. General Function:
Under the direction of the Child Care Senior Program Director and in accordance with the Christian nature and purpose of the YMCA of Greater Dayton, the Child Care Director is responsible for providing excellent programs and services to YMCA members and program participants.

Essential Functions:
The incumbent must have the competencies, relationship building skills, and proven leadership ability to successfully carry out his/her duties in accordance with the YMCA’s mission and strategic plan of the association for serving the community. Other important competencies of the Child Care Director include the following:

• Possesses the ability and appropriate safe driving record to drive a vehicle, safely transporting up to 14 children.

Requirements:
Education and Certifications – A 2-year college degree in Early Childhood Education or related field required; plan for completion of 4-year college degree required; 4-year college degree strongly preferred.

Experience - Minimum of 1 year supervisory experience demonstrating the ability to recruit, train, motivate and supervise staff, as well as the ability to work with committees is required. This individual must have 2 years experience in child care program area systems, procedures, and guidelines. Budget development and administration skills preferred. Planning and program development skills helpful.

Day Camp Counselor

Job Description:
Persons in this position will be responsible for providing a quality day camp experience for children; ensuring their safety and growth in spirit, mind, and body. Persons in this position are also responsible for the physical and emotional safety of children participating in aquatic activities. All staff understands the YMCA as a mission and membership driven organization.

Essential Functions
