Annual Campaign - YMCA of Greater Dayton
The YMCA of Greater Dayton's Annual Campaign ensures that no one is denied the opportunity to share in the YMCA experience due to an inability to pay. Each year, thousands of kids learn to swim, play and compete in youth sports leagues, go to summer camp, learn new skills and make new friends at the YMCA.
The Y is the unparalleled cause for strengthening community because we are the community. Together with you, your family and your neighbors, our movement strengthens Miami Valley communities by promoting youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. We’ve done it for 143 years and we are determined to continue our neighborhood support.
In 2012, we served over 118,000 individuals in diverse communities throughout the Dayton area. Scholarships, subsidies and outreach provided middle to low-income families access to critical YMCA programs and services. We had over 4,200 volunteers join our cause of strengthening community by contributing their time and efforts to our Y mission.
The YMCA of Greater Dayton provided over $5.8 million in financial assistance to area families in 2012.
Here is a snapshot of how this assistance was allocated:
SUMMER CAMP - Over 1 in 3 campers received assistance providing them a summer filled with nature, outside play, cookouts, friendship and more in a caring, safe environment
CHILD CARE - 70% of the over 2,200 children enrolled in our child care programs received assistance to ensure a safe place to learn, grow and thrive
TEEN PROGRAMS - Over 120 teens participated in leadership, volunteer and summer programs and discovered the value of giving back to the Miami Valley community while embracing the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility
AQUATICS - While learning to swim at the Y, over 20,000 community members gained strength, confidence and water safety skills
DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM - Over 300 participants made healthier life choices after learning how to manage their pre-diabetic conditions in our YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program
CHILDHOOD OBESITY PREVENTION - Over 1,250 urban youth discovered new ways to remain active, improve fitness levels and learn about nutrition through our Regional Training Center
ACTIVE OLDER ADULTS - Being active is the key to maintaining vitality in older years. Over 18,000 members received assistance to participate in our Silver Sneakers and Active Older Adult programs
