A local version of the Olympic Games sprinted into the Miami Valley on Thursday.

About 500 children attended the 10th annual Day Camp Olympics at the University of Dayton. They came from all across Montgomery County from various YMCA day camp sites.

“We just want kids to be active and have fun, meet new people and learn new things,” said Gayle Horton, Executive Director of Community Development.

Children went to 13 stations, including bucket brigade, football pass and track and field events.

“We rotate every 10 minutes because we don’t want them to be bored,” Horton said. “We want them to just have an incredible day that they’ll remember forever.”

Rick Salone’s two children are involved in the Day Camp Olympics. He said his children look forward to it every summer.

“Beautiful day to get involved and have physical activity, nice fun competition and camaraderie at the same time,” Salone said.

8-year-old Jordan Hill said his favorite activity was the football throw. He enjoyed spending time with his friends.

“They are being active and playing their hearts out and doing their best,” Hill said.
