West Carrollton Volunteer of the Year Award Presented To Local Supporter

29 March 2013

For Immediate Release

[West Carrollton, OH 3/29/13] – The YMCA of Greater Dayton is pleased to recognize Ruthie Kuntz as the West Carrollton YMCA volunteer of the year.

Ruthie Kuntz joined the YMCA as a Silver Sneaker member in 2010 after retiring from NCR.  She quickly got involved and started coming to the Y four times a week.  She participated in aerobic classes, beachball volleyball and pickleball.  It wasn’t long before she realized she wanted to be more involved.  She volunteered every week by helping with the Senior Beachball Volleyball team and the Senior Showcase.  She was constantly in touch with everyone, keeping rosters up to date, sending emails and making phone calls if someone had been missing from the Y for too long.

She organized carry-ins and social events. Her motto was “the more, the merrier”, so she made posters that could be seen around the building and was always encouraging people to join in on the fun.  In 2011, Ruth joined the West Carrollton YMCA Board of Advisors and became active in the Strong Kids campaign.  She encouraged each member of the volleyball team to donate $20 and purchase a Strong Kids T-Shirt to help spread the word.  Over the past two campaigns she has raised close to $1000!  Ruthie is cherished by her husband Al, children and grandchildren; but she is also cherished by the staff and the members who have had the chance to meet her at the West Carrollton YMCA.

The award was presented during the YMCA's 142nd Annual Meeting at the David H. Ponitz Center at Sinclair in Dayton on March 14th. The event raised over $17,500 for the YMCA's Annual Strong Kids Campaign and consisted of a silent auction, dinner and a program where volunteers and staff were recognized for their contributions to the success of the YMCA of Greater Dayton.

Thank you again to Ruthie. Her dedication to the Y makes our community a better place.
