WEST CARROLLTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Swimmers in West Carrollton got a lesson in swim safety with a Water Safety course at Wilson Pool Saturday.

The class was designed to cover the basics of water safety for both adults and children.

Red Cross-certified life guard instructors from the West Carrollton YMCA taught the class.

Participants will also received information about sun safety.

"Our goal is to help people understand what our lifeguards are looking for when they are on duty, and also what parents can do to help keep their children safe," said Megan Montgomery, Wilson Pool manager.

West Carrollton Police and Fire Departments were also on hand with informational booths at the pool.

"Several members of the city's recreation board came up with the concept for this special event," said Christian Mattingly, parks and recreation director. "They thought it was a good way to introduce new people to the pool, and also provide a time for those who are new to the water to understand some basic safety concepts," he said.

Swimmers who took part in the Water Safety Class received free admission to swim after completing the course.
