President’s Award Presented To Local Y Supporter

29 March 2013

For Immediate Release

[Dayton, OH 3/29/13] – The YMCA of Greater Dayton is pleased to recognize Elaine Gill as the President’s Award winner.

Presidents award - elaine gillWe would like to take this opportunity to recognize one of the real heroes of our YMCA that works behind the scenes. Last year we announced that our YMCA had been selected as a recipient of a grant through the US Soccer Foundation to run “Soccer for Success”, a Childhood Obesity Prevent Program. How do you prepare and feed 800 children at 15 different locations a healthy snack?

Elaine Gill is the person that made that happen! Through her passion and dedication to youth development and healthy living, she coordinated over 40 volunteers to help prepare over 33,000 snacks.   During the first 12 week cycle, they washed over 17,000 apples, made 136 quarts of fresh salsa, and diced over 100 watermelons. The vast majority of that work was done by volunteers – Elaine coordinated and worked with them all.

Elaine has successfully taken on a huge task and made it work for our YMCA. Thanks to her, our kids have a healthy snack at each program site.

Special thanks to Elaine Gill for her outstanding service to the YMCA. Her tireless dedication makes our organization a better place.

The award was presented during the YMCA's 142nd Annual Meeting at the David H. Ponitz Center at Sinclair in Dayton on March 14. The event raised over $17,500 for the YMCA's Annual Strong Kids Campaign and consisted of a silent auction, dinner and a program where volunteers and staff were recognized for their contributions to the success of the YMCA of Greater Dayton.
