Golf outing deadline is July 11

GREENE COUNTY — Greene County golfers will have an opportunity to “tee-off” to help children and families during the YMCA Strong Kids Golf Outing this Friday.

The county-wide event on July 12 will benefit the 2013 Strong Kids Scholarship Campaign at the Fairborn and Xenia YMCAs. The annual YMCA of Greater Dayton campaign helps to ensure that YMCA values, benefits, programs and facilities are available to everyone. The Strong Kids Campaign provides membership opportunities to families in Greene County who are in need, as well as scholarships for life skills and values focused programs, such as youth sports, swimming lessons, child care, and summer camps.

This is the second year the Fairborn and Xenia locations have combined fund-raising efforts with a golf outing at the Beavercreek Golf Club, 2800 New Germany-Trebein Road.

“The Fairborn and Xenia Ys have similar set-ups and staff sizes, so we decided to combine our limited resources to make a more fun engagement,” said Jackie Brockman, Fairborn YMCA executive director. “We need about $6,000 combined to reach our goals. All the money raised goes back to our local scholarship programs to help kids in our communities. It benefits all the value-added programs we have for our families.”

The annual campaign began in January with a combined YMCA of Greater Dayton association goal of $879,932. The Fairborn YMCA is close to their individual goal of $30,000 with $28,400 in pledges to date. The Xenia YMCA has raised $41,800 toward their $48,000 goal. Though the organizations aim to have pledges collected by September each year, the campaign does not close until December.
“I’m always amazed the amount people are willing to contribute and give, especially in lower income communities, even if they are in need of assistance themselves,” said Brockman. “We see a lot of support from neighbor to neighbor, which shows that people want to see participation in something positive and life-changing.”

The last day to register for the Strong Kids Golf Outing is Thursday, July 11. Cost per golfer is $100, including a round of golf in team scramble format, lunch, cart, unlimited non-alcoholic drinks, unlimited keg beer, dinner and the opportunity to win other prizes.

Registration begins at 11 a.m. Friday, July 12, with lunch at 12 p.m. and shotgun start at 1 p.m. The Golf Ball Roll will take place at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:15 p.m. and awards at 6:30 p.m.
