Ghosts and goblins of all ages are gearing up for Fairborn’s inaugural Halloween Festival with events beginning Friday, including the annual Spooktacular Parade.
The Fairborn Area Chamber of Commerce celebration will feature more than 30 vendors, a variety of amusement rides and two nights of events to provide a weekend of family fun-filled entertainment. The festival hours are 4-11 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday.

“The goal is to take advantage and enhance the Halloween celebration, making it an evening full of family fun,” said chamber director Paul Newman. “We wanted to give people more to enjoy as they come to celebrate Halloween downtown.”
The event gets underway at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26 on two Main Street blocks between Grand and Pleasant avenues.

Highlighting Friday night’s activities will be the annual Spooktacular Parade which begins with costume judging at 6 p.m. at the Fairborn YMCA. While the judging takes place, all participants can enjoy games, crafts and activities in the YMCA’s “back yard” sponsored by the Fairborn United Methodist Church.
The participants will then make their way to the main stage at Central Avenue and Main Street where the first, second and third place winners will be awarded to eight different age groups along with a variety of special categories.
“Foy’s Stores make sure every child gets some kind of prize, which is one of the most unique things I have seen in the Spooktacular Parade and it makes everyone tremendously happy,” Newman said.

To prepare for the festivities, barricades will be put in place at 1 p.m. Friday on Main Street at Grand and Pleasant avenues. Central Ave. will be closed at the end of the islands on each side of Main St. There is one exception, which is the closing of the north side of Main Street between Grand and Central at 10 a.m. to set up amusement rides.

Friday night at 11 p.m. the island barricades will be removed to provide Central Avenue traffic flow from 11 p.m. Friday night until 9 a.m. Saturday morning.
