‘CROCODILES’ SWIM TEAM COMPLETES RECORD SEASON

August 28, 2012 - The Coffman Family YMCA Swim Team recently completed a record setting season!! Focusing a “Team First” attitude, the Crocodiles have fast become a local standard in competitive swimming and are currently building the team for future seasons.

The current season started off with record registration that saw the number of swimmers increase nearly 75% from a year earlier. Building on the increased numbers and excitement, the team built momentum throughout the season. At the League Championships in July, the team amassed the second most points since the program began with 1250! Along the way, swimmers set 17 new team records at the meet, including one new League Meet Record by Marianne Kahmann.  The team’s successes led to Head Coach John Janszen being awarded the Francis Parish Coach of The Year award, given by his coaching peers. This award is given twice a year at the end of each season. The Southwest Ohio YMCA Swim League is comprised of YMCA competitive swim teams from Northern Kentucky through the Columbus area and is widely considered one of the best leagues of its kind.

Following a successful league season, the team continued its push forward by way of the YMCA National Championships in Atlanta, GA. The Crocodiles qualified record numbers of both male and female swimmers, including the first male relays since 2007. In all, Coffman qualified 12 swimmers to the National Championships, the most ever for the program. At the meet, swimmers produced lifetime best performances at an excellent rate of 90%+ while also setting new Team Records in 50% of all individual and team races. Highlighting the meet were All-American performances by Kaylyn Murphy (50 Freestyle & 50 Butterfly) and Marianne Kahmann (50 & 100 Backstroke), including a 3rd place finish by Marianne in the 50 Backstroke.

The team is currently gearing up for the beginning of the next season, which starts in September.
