[Dayton, OH 3/23/11] – The YMCA of Greater Dayton held its 140th Annual Meeting at the David H. Ponitz Center at Sinclair in Dayton recently. The event raised over $19,000 for the YMCA’s annual Strong Kids Campaign. The event consisted of a silent auction, dinner and a program where volunteers and staff were recognized for their contributions to the success of the YMCA of Greater Dayton.

The Volunteers of the Year for the Fairborn Y were awarded to Steve & Heather Howell.  Steve and Heather coached youth sports in four different seasons over the course of 2010 and were regulars at monthly Kids Night Out activities. It is obvious that they are serious about Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility as they put all three into practice all year long at the Y.  Steve took the reins for two different basketball teams, helping kids to learn the game by putting the FUN in fundamentals.  Heather took the lead for teams in both the spring and fall soccer seasons, showing an incredible ability to move kids beyond “clump ball” into the exciting world of soccer.

Steve and Heather have also done a great job of being examples, not just for kids, but for other families too, as they support one another in their individual roles as coaches and by showing how to play an active role in their own son, Hayden’s, life.  Steve and Heather have gone above and beyond to exemplify the YMCA spirit.

Steve and Heather Howell are heroes to the Fairborn YMCA.
