[Dayton, OH 3/23/11] – The YMCA of Greater Dayton held its 140th Annual Meeting at the David H. Ponitz Center at Sinclair in Dayton recently. The event raised over $19,000 for the YMCA’s annual Strong Kids Campaign. The event consisted of a silent auction, dinner and a program where volunteers and staff were recognized for their contributions to the success of the YMCA of Greater Dayton.

Don and Martha Loper were awarded the Downtown YMCA Volunteers of the Year. Don and Martha were invaluable during the opening of the Infant/Toddler Program at the St. Anthony’s childcare center. Don, known as “Papa John” to the staff and “Grandpa” to the children, spent countless hours unpacking boxes, assembling cribs, painting and cleaning. Martha spent numerous hours unpacking, cleaning and disinfecting toys, pressed 72 sets of curtains, washed all the crib sheets and blankets and has sewn numerous bibs for the infants. Both volunteered at Breakfast with Santa, the Y family picnic and still find time to create meals and special treats for the staff. The Downtown YMCA is grateful for their generosity and support.

Don and Martha Loper are heroes to the Downtown YMCA.
