The Coffman YMCA Swim Team has a new leader at the helm.

Cincinnati native John Janszen is entering his first season as head coach of the Coffman Crocodiles.

"We are thrilled and excited to have found a coach with such experience, knowledge and drive," commented newly elected parent board president Brian Van Jura. "John is the right coach to take this program to the next level and we can't wait to see what great successes the future holds for John and the team."

Janszen comes to Coffman from Miami University where he spent the past 3½ years as the men's assistant swim coach.153708a.jpg

While at Miami, Janszen worked with several MAC Conference award winners as well as NCAA and Olympic Trial qualifiers.

Prior to Miami, Janszen spent nearly two years coaching the men's and women's teams at Xavier University. "I've been fortunate early in my career to have had the opportunity to work with some incredibly talented athletes and coaches", remarked Janszen. "I'm looking forward to passing what I've learned on to the swimmers at Coffman while continuing to grow as a coach myself."

Janszen began his career coaching summer swim clubs throughout the Cincinnati area. From 2000-2002, Janszen was head coach of the North Hills Swim Club.

He worked as an assistant coach for the Indian Hill Swim and Tennis Club in 2003-2005, then took on the head coach position at the Cincinnati Country Club in 2006. Additionally, in 2005-2006, Janszen was head coach at Cincinnati Wyoming High School, where he was named the CHL Women's Coach of the Year in 2005.

Janszen is not new to YMCA swimming either. He served as an assistant coach and strength trainer with the Powell Crosley YMCA Swim Team in 2005-2006, and as head coach for the Gamble Nippert YMCA Swim Team in 2004-2005.

"I swam for the Y for over 12 years and began my full-time coaching career in the Y system. I couldn't be more excited to be back!" concluded Janszen.
