YMCA of Greater Dayton Presents E.L. Kohnle Award

 

March 27, 2009 - The YMCA of Greater Dayton held its Annual Meeting at the David H. Ponitz Center at Sinclair in Dayton recently. The event raised over $21,000 for the YMCA’s annual Strong Kids Campaign. The event consisted of a silent auction, dinner and a program where volunteers and staff were recognized for their contributions to the success of the YMCA of Greater Dayton.

The YMCA of Greater Dayton is pleased to recognize Shawn McCormick as E.L. Kohnle award winner this year. The E.L. Kohnle award is the highest honor given to a volunteer of the YMCA of Greater Dayton.

Shawn has more than 30 years of involvement with the YMCA. Beginning with swim team, he later went on to teach swimming lessons at the YMCA and eventually coached the Swim Team. He was later named the Aquatic Director of the Xenia YMCA while attending college.

Shortly after joining the Branch Board of the Xenia YMCA his leadership potential was quickly recognized and he was asked to join the YMCA of Greene County’s Metro Board of Directors as the representative from the Xenia YMCA in 1997.

In 2000, Shawn McCormick was appointed to the YMCA of Greene County’s Metro Board of Directors as an Association Board Member and in April of 2005 he was elected as Board President of the YMCA of Greene County. Shawn served tirelessly as Board President through the transition of hiring a new CEO in 2005, beginning a Strategic Planning process in 2006, serving on the exploratory merger committee with the YMCA of Greater Dayton in 2007 and then officially oversaw the merger between the YMCA of Greater Dayton and YMCA of Greene County while in his third year long term as Board President. Throughout Shawn’s three years serving as Board President he gave generously of his time, talent, treasure all while providing the YMCA with exceptional leadership.
