The Springboro YMCA Aquatics Department has some big plans in its future.

As the new aquatics director, Nathan Brestelli, has plans to expand the current programs and is in the process of adding so much more.

Brestelli, who came to the Springboro Y in August, has extensive knowledge as a pool operator and instructor.

He sees this as an "opportunity for tremendous growth and expansion" for his department.

As the programs expand under his vision, the staffing has increased to match that demand. Currently there are 22 lifeguards on staff.

Brestelli said his goal is to "provide a safe and fun environment for people of all ages to enjoy our many aquatics programs."

Both pools play an important part in the overall benefits available to Y members. There is something for all ages with water aerobics, kayak training, swim lessons, arthritis conditioning, swim team, water slide, adult lap swimming and the new Masters Swim team.

One of the new aquatics programs will be the Prenatal Water Aerobics, which is designed for pregnant and postpartum women.

A lower-impact level of workout is combined with the resource of an obstetrics nurse directing the class.

This promises to be a favorite class that's offered year-round.

Members and nonmembers also will benefit from additional swim lesson programs offered. Swim lessons are a staple of any aquatics department and the Springboro Y is no exception.

The demand for additional classes has increased the teaching staff and opened up more class offerings.

The Shrimp Class is a parent and infant class that introduces swimming to babies. The swim lesson programs are offered to both members and nonmembers.

Another new aquatics staff addition is David Mail. As the Crocodiles Swim Team director and head coach, he said he wants to see his team "Be the best in Dayton!"

A graduate of Miami University with a degree in physical education, Mail has a long background in swim team participation and coaching.
