TROTWOOD - Until a few weeks ago, residents were in limbo about whether the YMCA-sponsored outdoor swimming pool would open up again this year.

But the YMCA Neighborhood Development Center has announced that the outdoor pool at the United Theological Seminary's Trotwood campus, 4501 Denlinger Road, will open once again this summer starting May 24 through Sept. 1. Pool times are noon to 7 p.m. seven days a week (with adjustments to the schedule in case of inclement weather and holidays).

Gayle Horton, the YMCA's Neighborhood Development Center executive director, said, "The city faced a financial deficit and was in the process of having to cut the budget. At first, the city didn't think they would be able to give us any money."

At the April 21 City Council meeting, council evaluated the importance of having the pool re-open for another summer - they agreed unanimously to contribute $13,000 from the city's budget.

Other community partners donating money this year: Precious Blood Church, Sisters of the Precious Blood Motherhouse and CareSource Foundation.

"Trotwood's is the largest pool in Montgomery County (approximately 500,000 gallons) and almost twice as big as other pools — at least 10,000 visitors came to the pool in 2007," Horton said.

Season passes for YMCA members, UTS students and City Trotwood residents are: Families: $117.70; Adults $88.27; Youth/Seniors $58.85. Day passes are $7 for adults and $4 for children.
