YMCA CELEBRATES WORLDWIDE DAY OF PLAY AT NEW NEIGHBORHOOD DEVELOPMENT CENTER IN TROTWOOD

September 28, 2004 - The YMCA of Greater Dayton is pleased to announce it will be celebrating the Worldwide Day of Play in conjunction with the opening of its new YMCA Neighborhood Development Center at Cross Point United Methodist Church (UMC) in Trotwood. This new Center is a collaboration between the YMCA of Greater Dayton and Cross Point UMC and will be located at the current Cross Point UMC location at 506 E. Main St. in Trotwood.

The Worldwide Day of Play is a day sponsored by Nickelodeon in an effort to draw attention to the importance of play on an international scale by galvanizing people everywhere to take time out of their day to drop everything and play! In schools, at home, at work and after-school, people all over the world will make time in their day to stop what they're doing and celebrate kids' fundamental right to play. This year's Worldwide Day of Play is Saturday October 2, 2004.

The YMCA Neighborhood Development Center at Cross Point UMC will have its grand opening celebration on October 2nd from 11 am to 4 pm. To celebrate the Worldwide Day of Play there will be fun activities for kids of all ages including a fish fry, dunking booth, face painting, blood pressure checks, as well as games and activities for children/adults/seniors. The event is free and open to the public.

The new YMCA Neighborhood Development Center at Cross Point UMC will provide for a significant increase in programs and services to kids, families and seniors in the Trotwood community. Programs will include Spirit Quest, Nutrition Classes, Senior Exercise, Computer Lab, Music, Dance, Drama, Teen Programs, Bible Study and more! Financial assistance is also available, as in all YMCA programs and services, allowing for the greatest accessibility for all members of our community. Hours of operation will be Monday through Friday 10 am to 12 pm, Monday through Thursday 3 pm to 9 pm and Saturday 1 pm to 7 pm. The phone number for the new site is 854-9622.

This is the second YMCA Neighborhood Development Center to open this year. Additional sites are in the process of being confirmed. For more information please call Tim Helm, President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Dayton at (937) 223-5201.
